Tori (Eggert) Nieuwsma ’16 - A Valley City Hi-Liner, born and raised, Tori (Eggert) Nieuwsma ’16 studied Human Services during her time at VCSU. She now lives in Bismarck, N.D. with her husband and two boys and works as a Child Protection Worker for Burleigh County Human Service Zone.
After transferring to VCSU, she declared her major as elementary education. Working with her advisor, the two discovered that her strengths were better suited elsewhere and they landed on Human Services. Through that experience, Nieuwsma discovered the true value and connections made with professors at VCSU. “They hold you accountable but also strive to watch you succeed, ” she said. “They assist in all different areas whether it’s personal, professional or educational.” To this day, she still maintains some of those connections at VCSU.
Her time at VCSU was spent learning the technical skills required for her line of work but she also learned the always valuable soft skills like timeliness, responsibility, independence and confidence.
As a child protection worker, Nieuwsma uses these skills everyday.
