Brown, Clara Dale
Clara Dale Brown was born in Wisconsin. She graduated from high school at Marmarth, North Dakota, in 1924. Clara earned a second grade professional certificate from Valley City State Teacher's College in 1927. After a brief teaching career she was elected to serve as Slope County Superintendent of Schools, a position she held for just over 30 years. Beginning in 1963, Mrs. Brown served as Executive Secretary of the North Dakota Teacher Insurance and Retirement fund and since 1970 has served as the Librarian of the Bowman Public Library. In 1964 Clara Brown organized the North Dakota County Superintendents and served as its first president. This organization is still very active. Clara Brown is a life member of NDEA, NEA and Delta Kappa Gamma. She is a member of the VCSC V-500 Foundation, is active in Senior Citizens and Retired Teachers. From 1978-80 she served as President of the North Dakota Lung Association and has been active in many other professional and civic groups. On April 15, 1982, Clara was honored at Governor Allen Olson's residence as one of the five outstanding volunteers in North Dakota.
