VCSU Coaches Hall of Fame – Osmon Icon Award
In 2021, Valley City State University established the VCSU Coaches Hall of Fame, which honors Viking alumni who have gone on to successful and influential coaching careers. The inaugural class was inducted in the spring of 2022.
Inductees into the VCSU Coaches Hall of Fame receive the Osmon Icon Award, as a recognition of their commitment to excellence in the field of coaching through their careers. The award is named in honor of Viking Icon Coach Bill Osmon. Coach Osmon's teams won 24 conference championships in four different sports making him the all-time winningest coach in Valley City State history while providing dedication and influential service during his tenure at Valley City State.
Nominees for the VCSU Coaches Hall of Fame/Osmon Icon Award must be a graduate of Valley City State University and must have been involved in the coaching profession for a minimum of 10 years. Other criteria that will be considered includes:
- Outstanding character as demonstrated through his or her commitment to youth both on and off the field, court, etc.
- The records of the nominee considered should be so outstanding that there would be little question as to the qualifications necessary for induction.
- Consideration will be given for personal conduct in sports and personal contributions to the ideal of sports.
- The Hall of Fame Committee has the authority to make exceptions for extraordinary cases for individuals not meeting the criteria.
